What happens during a VW service? - Our Service Checklist

Lights & Visibility: Front, rear and internal lights are checked to confirm all are in working order. All windows, wipers, mirrors and registration plates are checked for faults or weak points.

Braking System: Front & Rear brakes and all associated mechanisms are checked and measured according to safety standards. We want to keep you safe on the road.

Interior: Internal controls are checked, including seat belts, horn, hazard lights, air conditioning and other control functions. We also access the internal diagnostic supply data, including warning messages from the internal VW vehicle software.

Steering & Drive System: We check all joints, gaiters and wheel bearings for strength and function. All shock absorbers and springs are reviewed and tested for effectiveness and friction. A wheel alignment analysis is also carried out.

Under the Vehicle: Under car trays are removed and transmission thoroughly checked for leaks, faults, rust or corrosion. Oil drained from the engine, and all lines checked for defects before trays are replaced.

Under the Bonnet: A visual engine inspection ensures that all parts are in total working order, with no faults or leaks. Air & oil filters, spark plugs and drive belts are checked and replaced if required.

Tyres: Wheels, including wheel nuts, are inspected to check for corrosion or weak points. Tyre treads are inspected, and tyre pressures are adjusted before refitting. Spare wheel and/or inflation kit also checked where appropriate.

Final Checks: Brake fluid and anti-freeze levels are checked. Then the oil is replaced and your VW service record is updated.
What type of service does my VW need?
Every VW comes with its unique servicing schedule, which you can find within your handbook.
The intervals will be dependent on vehicle age, annual mileage and what fuel your VW runs on.
You will have a service indicator on your dashboard, which will illuminate to let you know when your service is due, either in date or distance format. Your handbook should also provide the entire service history of your VW, which will show servicing intervals previously used.
