The Inspection
At RM Motors, our specialists use a thorough 15-step diagnostic procedure to find and solve the root cause of any problem your vehicle has.
During the initial inspection and test drive, our experts noticed that the BMW X6’s Engine Management Light was activated, along with a warning for the vehicle’s AdBlue system.
The AdBlue system is crucial for reducing harmful exhaust emissions in diesel vehicles. It’s a requirement for all diesel vehicles in the UK.
If it malfunctions, your vehicle might not start, which could lead to expensive repairs. You might even fail your MOT… Talk about a nightmare.
Our experts knew the issue needed a deeper inspection to identify the root cause. To do so, a comprehensive diagnostic test was carried out to see if any error codes were present.
The error codes found on the BMW X6 were:
- 26F500 – SCR System efficiency too low
- 2AC600 – SCR System efficiency is too low. Poor AdBlue quality was detected.
These codes might seem like random numbers and letters, but to our highly experienced Audi specialists, it’s like an X on a treasure map, pointing them in the right direction.
What’s Next?
After verifying the error codes, our team had a direction and could now move on to a deeper inspection.
First, our team checked the AdBlue levels within the system. The levels were adequate, so they examined the quality of the AdBlue solution. Again, everything appeared normal, prompting a visual inspection under the X6 bonnet and beneath the car. This showed no apparent issues. It was clear that the client had been looking after their vehicle.
Next, we removed the AdBlue system injector to inspect the spray pattern, ensuring it was functioning correctly and initiating the necessary chemical reaction. The injector worked as it should, so we reassembled it and tested the SCR system.
SCR stands for Selective Catalytic Reduction, a crucial process for reducing harmful exhaust emissions and drastically improving your vehicle’s environmental impact.
During the SCR tests on the client’s BMW X6, we identified an issue with the catalyst temperature sensor. The sensor intermittently failed, causing incorrect temperature readings. Accurate temperature readings are essential for the system to operate within the correct parameters, ensuring efficient conversion of NOx (Nitrogen Oxide) to meet legal limits.
It was now clear where the fault lay; our experts could begin fixing the problem. However, there is one key thing that needs to be done first.
Fixing the BMW X6 Engine Management Light
Before our specialist proceeded with a fix, they called the client to discuss what had been found and to propose a solution.
At RM Motors, you’re always in complete control of the situation. We’ll always call you before any work occurs and only proceed with the fix once you’re happy.
The client was pleased to hear our experts had found the problem quickly and agreed to the suggested work.
With the client’s approval, our experts began the repair process.
We removed the faulty catalyst temperature sensor and installed a new Audi-branded replacement. As your local independent Audi specialist, our experts only use genuine Audi or high-grade alternative parts on your vehicle. This ensures you get nothing but quality.
Following the replacement, we re-ran the SCR system tests to ensure the issue was resolved.
Thankfully, the tests came back fine and a thorough test drive confirmed that the client’s vehicle was back in peak working condition.
Once we confirmed that all systems were operating as they should, we reset the software which cleared the warning lights from the X6 dashboard.
With the car fully repaired and in optimal condition, we were ready to return it to the client.
